Pitlochry is the famous for the ‘theatre in the hills’, Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre and the Enchanted Forest, but for a visit to the cinema to watch a movie, the Birks Cinema in Aberfeldy is the number one choice for visitors to and residents of this lovely Highland Perthshire town. It’s a 25 minute drive from Pitlochry to the cinema via the A9 followed by the A827 through the hamlets of Ballinluig, Logierait and Grandtully, passing over the rivers Tummel and Tay along the way.

Take the ‘back road’ along the north side of the river Tay back to Pitlochry via Weem, Strathtay and Pitnacree, passing Cluny House Gardens and St Mary’s Church along the way before joining the A827 taking you back to the A9. Or, maybe we would enjoy taking in Loch Tummel and the hamlet of Foss on the south side of the loch – passing the Braes of Foss car park where Outlander was filmed so fans can spot the stone marker pointing towards Craigh na Dun – before reaching the famous Clunie Arch built in memory of the Tunnel Tigers. The Foss road is not recommended during winter months, however it is spectacular throughout the seasons.
