The Needle and The Damage Done

Join us for the UK premiere of Kevin Molony's 'The Needle & The Damage Done'. Following the screening we will have a Q&A with Kevin and members of the cast and crew.

Glaswegian dentist, Philip Black, approaches his 50th birthday with trepidation. Fate lends a hand in the shape of a polish ventriloquist who slumps dead in his chair during a routine extraction. Seizing the moment Black appropriates the man’s identity and throws himself into the unknown. Armed with the deceased’s passport, air tickets and huge trunk containing the dummy, Black lands in Poland. However he finds that the least of his problems are being neither a ventriloquist nor speaking one word of Polish. Enter Ludek, a manic-depressive midget providing a possible route to salvation.

And after a short interval, the second half beings with 'The Needle & The Damage Done' (66mins). This film takes its cue from absurdist drama where life seems meaningless, particularly for the Mulgrew household. A middle-aged couple living a mundane life in a Glasgow tower block. He, Wattie, an unemployed amputee trying to deny his feeling of guilt at not being the bread-winner of the household and Eileen, a highly competent knitter making some income making tea-cosies. Two characters who will try and prove their own worth but bring about the downfall of their relationship. A couple disrupted, by on the one hand, a recurring dream offering a potential life changing meeting and on the other a proposed celebrity status as a champion knitter. However the consequences play out in a way no-one could have imagined. As well as established actors, inhabitants of Aberfeldy are featured as both cast and crew including one canine newcomer. The town itself also plays a role as an actor playing the part of various locations.
