Join us for a very special Climate Film screening of 'Split', followed by a Q&A/discussion with the filmmaker, Charlotte Workman.
Split follows the physical and mental journeys of best friends Tom and James - both environmentalists and both airline pilots - as they embark and reflect on a remote splitboard expedition in Greenland.
With humour and depth, filmmaker and expedition teammate Charlotte follows how each navigates their minds, passions and purpose in a time of crisis.
Director's Statement
“When I first agreed to join the expedition to Greenland as a filmmaker - I thought the resulting film would just be about the adventurous journey itself.
Upon meeting Tom and James - the protagonists - this entirely changed.
Their characters, relationship and story captured me in such a way I felt there was no option but to take the time to make a deeper, more character driven film.
The theme of contradiction and dichotomy arose in so many aspects of the story; it fitted perfectly with the nature of the expedition itself which was to be the longest splitboard journey. The ‘split’ appears in how Tom and James differ in their personalities, their mindsets and their approaches to living as environmental activists and airline pilots.
It particularly resonated with me, and I hope it will with others as we all try to navigate our minds, passions and purpose in a time of climate and mental health crisis.
Naturally, I seem to tell stories in a humorous way - so despite dealing with what can be heavy topics, I hope that Split provides comedy, thoughtful moments & ultimately hope”
