Join us for a special discussion with freelance video editor & space history author, David Woods, before the film on Fri 10 April. The talk will start at 7pm and the film will start at 8pm.
film synopsis:
Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction… but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.
David Woods Event 7pm on 10 April:
21st Century Exploration, 1960's Hardware
Over half a century ago, the human species took a profound step off Earth and onto another world, the Moon, when Neil Armstrong and eleven other astronauts walked on its dusty surface. Space history author David Woods describes how this audacious feat was achieved and the challenges that had to be overcome when embarking on an Apollo mission. From riding what was then the most powerful successful rocket, guiding a spacecraft to the Moon, or dealing with personal hygiene issues, David's talk covers many aspects of these missions to explain just how Apollo flew to the Moon.
David will have copies of his books for sale:
"How Apollo Flew to the Moon"
"Haynes Saturn V Owners' Workshop Manual"
"Haynes Lunar Rover Owners' Workshop Manual"
