BWFF: Folktales
BWFF: Folktales
Part of the Third Annual Birks Wilderness Film Festival.

This screening will be preceded by a short film and discussion from Highland Perthshire Communities Land Trust with Fred Cochrane and Keith Myers.

This short 9 minute film looks at the ecological restoration work at Dun Coillich, a 1000acre hill and former deer park south of Shiehallion over the past 20 years, and the people that have been involved from local young people on Rural Skills courses, apprentices, habitat maintenance volunteers, employees and trustees of our charity Highland Perthshire Communities Land Trust. Dun Coillich is a great success in returning woodland habitats to our Aberfeldy hills, creating a thriving landscape for eveyone to enjoy.

Folktales synopsis:
From the Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady (Jesus Camp), Folktales is a timely and moving portrait of teenagers who choose an extraordinary “gap year” in the Arctic wilderness — learning to dog sled, navigate the wilderness, and find meaning beyond the modern world. Dropped at the edge of the world, they must rely on only themselves, one another, and a loyal pack of sled dogs as they all grow in unexpected directions.
