A series of four informal slide-talks in connection with current and upcoming exhibitions in the UK, given by local artist and art historian Dr Andrew Paterson, who is a Teaching Fellow at the University of Edinburgh. Wednesday evenings, fortnightly, 12th February to 26th March, 7.30 to 8.30pm.
Wednesday 12th February, 7:30 PM
William Gillies, a Scottish Modernist
(Exhibition at Perth Art Gallery until 2nd March, then on tour in Scotland until 2026)
The excellent touring exhibition devoted to the work of William Gillies (1898-1973) suggests that he has not received the credit he deserves in the history of British modernism – while his landscapes show a commitment to the places in Scotland that he knew best, the evolution of his style shows a keen awareness of the pioneering work of his European contemporaries such as Edvard Munch and Paul Klee.
Each talk will last approximately one hour.
Ticket Price: £12
Location: Birks Cinema1st Floor Mezzanine
