Talking Pictures: Andy and Ian
Talking Pictures: Andy and Ian
A series of four informal slide-talks in connection with current and upcoming exhibitions in the UK, given by local artist and art historian Dr Andrew Paterson, who is a Teaching Fellow at the University of Edinburgh. Wednesday evenings, fortnightly, 12th February to 26th March, 7.30 to 8.30pm.

Wednesday 26th March, 7:30 PM
Andy Goldsworthy and Ian Hamilton Finlay
(Goldsworthy exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh, 26th July to 2nd November; Finlay exhibition at Gallery of Modern Art 2, Edinburgh until 26th May)

Based in Dumfries and Galloway, Goldsworthy has been a pioneer in the field of ‘Land Art’ in this country since the 1980s, making outdoor sculpture with natural materials found on site, and fully embracing impermanence as a crucial element of their meaning. Finlay, whose centenary is being celebrated in 2025, was a poet as well as visual artist, using inscriptions as interventions in the natural environment, notably in the garden called Little Sparta which he created with his wife Sue in the Pentland Hills over the last twenty years of his life.

Each talk will last approximately one hour.
