Join us for a a special introduction and Q&A following the film. This Powell and Pressburger classic is set in a community of nuns high in the Himalayas. Their spiritual aims are hampered by the arrival of a beautiful native girl and a young general. As the two elope together, the nuns are left attributing blame to each other and, when a young child dies in their care, tensions begin to increase.

Film will be introduced by David Melville Wingrove, a Teaching Fellow in Film Studies and Literature at the University of Edinburgh Centre for Open Learning. A contributor to Senses of Cinema, Sight & Sound and The Guardian, he describes himself as a Lecturer in Hollywood Glamour and Gothic Excess.
